Make 2008 the year for music!
The Dandenong Ranges Music Council is ready for some great new music making activities for all ages and abilities. As well as all the favourite choirs, big bands, orchestras and junior strings, there will be percussion ensembles, songwriters and composer get togethers, music making for the frail aged and elderly, and for musicians with "Attitude".
Country music will continue on the first Sunday of the month and the rock, rhythm and blues people when it suits them. All ensembles welcome new members.
Youth Music Connection is designed to network young people through music making, and will commence a workshop and performance series as well.
Celtic harps with Jacquie Spring will be welcomed back on January 19th at the Community Music Centre at Upwey High School for a workshop series.
DRMC Chairman Norma Durrand says: "DRMC is particularly excited to announce that DRMC will host the Robert Exiner Recorder Celebration for children and adults. The recorder is a very accessible instrument which is sometimes quite undervalued. We aim to offer workshops for schools and community musicians with local and guest musicians and teachers. There will be a planning meeting in February to drive the project. The DRMC is most grateful to Jess Exiner for his generous financial support for this project"
Starting in March, New Horizons is a band especially dedicated to adults over 50 who are beginner musicians on woodwind, brass and percussion. Lessons on a chosen instrument and playing in a concert band ensemble will be offered. Adults who have played before and wish to join the program will also be made welcome. Musical director Brian Hogg is really looking forward to this brand new community music initiative and to meeting everyone on Friday February 15 at 7.30 pm at DRMC to explain more about the program.
